A Short History of

St. Dominics

TO MARK THE FIRST

CENTENARY OF THE DEDICATION

OF THE CHURCH

1877 – 1977

Preface

“and was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.”

Mathew. Ch.17 v.2.

When St. Dominics was opened Fr. James MacGillicuddy based his sermon on the Transfiguration.

This tiny booklet records a transformation – a transformation of St. Dominics from being part of a mission comprising “the Jim Crow Diggings, Mt. Blackwood, Ballan, Gordon, Bacchus Marsh, Riddell’s Creek, Kororoit Creek and Gisborne” to a Parish. The transformation covers the hundred years between

25 th February, 1877 and 25 th February, 1977.
